PRODUCED FOR MANUFACTURERS AND PLANT MANAGERS, THIS ENERGY CONSERVATION KIT PRESENTS A FLEXIBLE MODEL FROM WHICH COMPANIES CAN FORMULATE THEIR OWN EMPLOYEE/COMMUNITY CONSERVATION PROGRAMS.
Abstract
IDEAS FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION IN THE COMMUNITY AND FOR PARTICIPATION IN THESE EFFORTS ARE PRESENTED ALONG WITH SOME NOTES ON EFFECTIVE PRESS RELATIONS AND RELATED GUIDELINES, A MODEL EDITORIAL (OP-ED) ARTICLE, A MODEL LETTER TO THE EDITOR, AND A MODEL SPEECH. TO EFFECTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY CONSERVATION EFFORTS, THE COMPANY SHOULD CONDUCT PLANT TOURS FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC, EMPHASIZING ENERGY CONSERVATION ACTIVITIES; PREPARE ENERGY CONSERVATION ARTICLES FOR PUBLICATION IN NEWSPAPERS, TECHNICAL JOURNALS, AND POPULAR MAGAZINES; PROVIDE GUEST SPEAKERS TO SCHOOLS AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS TO EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF ENERGY CONSERVATION; AND BRING TOGETHER OTHER BUSINESSES AND INDUSTRIES IN THE COMMUNITY TO CONSIDER JOINT COOPERATIVE CONSERVATION EFFORTS. IDEAS FOR EMPLOYEE PARTICIPATION IN ENERGY CONSERVATION EFFORTS AND MODELS FOR EMPLOYEE COMMUNICATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. THESE IDEAS INCLUDE PUBLISHING ARTICLES ON ENERGY-SAVING METHODS IN EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTERS, DISPLAYING POSTERS URGING EMPLOYEES TO BE ENERGY SAVERS, INCLUDING ENERGY CONSERVATION IN EMPLOYEE TRAINING PROGRAMS, AND PROVIDING INCENTIVES FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION SUGGESTIONS IN EMPLOYEE SUGGESTION PROGRAMS. ALSO DESCRIBED IS THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY SHARING PROGRAM (EES), DESIGNED TO BRING TOGETHER COMPANIES THAT HAVE DEVELOPED EFFICIENT ENERGY MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS WITH COMPANIES THAT WANT TO DEVELOP OR IMPROVE THEIR ENERGY EFFICIENCY TECHNIQUES. ILLUSTRATIONS COMPLEMENT THE TEXT, AND AN ANNOTATED RESOURCE LIST PROVIDES INFORMATION ON CORPORATE FILMS, BOOKLETS, AND BROCHURES THAT ARE DIRECTED TO ENERGY CONSERVATION. (PRG)
