This report by the Home Office in the United Kingdom, presents supplemental findings to the Ending Gang and Youth Violence Annual Report for 2013.
Abstract
The annual report evaluated the effectiveness of the Ending Gang and Youth Violence program, exploring two main questions: 1) what did the program achieve in local areas, and 2) was the Home Office's engagement with local areas successful? The key findings from this supplemental report include the following: local areas had a positive response to the program and felt that they could "drive the program" to a greater extent than previous Home Office initiatives; local areas felt that they benefited from being part of the program and that positive changes to addressing the problem of gangs and youth violence occurred locally as a results; and particular strengths of the program were believed to be peer reviews, the general manner of support, and the encouragement of local cross-agency working. Data for this evaluation were obtained from four source: surveys of Ending Gang and Youth Violence local contacts; interviews with Ending Gang and Youth Violence local contacts; contextual information about the program areas; and police recorded violent crime in the program areas. The findings indicate that the success of the Program was due to its collaborative approach for ending gang and youth violence in which local partnerships were used to support early intervention activities. Study limitations are discussed. Tables and figures
