This handbook outlines guidelines for understanding AIDS; precautionary measures for medical and nonmedical personnel; testing, diagnosis and treatment of HIV disease; employees who have had significant exposure to blood/body fluids; and a program of comprehensive care for infected inmates.
Abstract
The recommendations in these guidelines focus on the concern for the protection of uninfected employees and inmates of California's Department of Corrections as well as for inmates who are HIV-infected. Routine testing is available to all inmates upon request and upon written order of a physician as is counseling. All new employees are to receive AIDS information during their orientation, and all facilities shall make AIDS educational classes available through inservice training.
