This research examines judges' reasons for participating in continuing professional education and the relationship between participation reasons and selected personal and professional characteristics.
Abstract
A previously validated instrument was mailed to 523 judges in Michigan with a 76 percent response rate. Three participation reason factors emerged from a factor analysis. Through the use of correlational and discriminant analysis, significant relationships were found to exist between four of the characteristics and two of the factors. The study results are being used in Michigan to analyze existing judicial education programs, design future programs, advertise and market programs and assist faculty members in preparing presentations.
