A WORKING DEFINITION OF EMOTIONAL STABILITY AND IMPLICATIONS FOR POLICE.
Abstract
ONE WHO IS EMOTIONALLY STABLE IS GENERALLY CALM AND EVEN TEMPERED. HE IS NEITHER UNDULY EXCITABLE NOR UNDULY SENSITIVE. HE IS SELF-CONFIDENT, AND SELF-CONTROLLED SO THAT HIS EMOTIONAL REACTIONS ARE APPROPRIATE TO THE SITUATION BUT NOT EXCESSIVE. HIS BEHAVIOR IS PRODUCTIVELY ATTUNED TO THE PROBLEM AT HAND.
