A RADIO-TRANSMITTING FIRE ALARM BOX SYSTEM IN STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT FUNCTIONED WITHOUT INTERRUPTION OR DISTRUBANCE DURING AN ICE STORM OF DISASTER PROPORTIONS.
Abstract
A SIDE-BY-SIDE SYSTEM OF TELEGRAPH WIRE-CONNECTED FIRE BOXES WITH AERIAL CABLES FROM THE OLDER SECTION OF THE CITY FAILED AT A RAPID RATE AS THE STORM PROGRESSED. THE RADIO ALARM BOXES ALSO HAVE A MASTER-BOXING CAPABILITY WHICH PERMITS THE RADIO BOXES TO BE DIRECTLY TIED TO FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS WITHIN APARTMENT HOUSES AND OFFICE AND INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS. THIS CAPABILITY PERMITS THE BOXES ALSO TO BE LINKED TO FIRE DETECTION AND SPRINKLER CONTROL SYSTEMS, AND EVEN TO BURGLAR ALARMS. IN ADDITION, RADIO BOXES HAVE TWO DISTINCT COMPARTMENTS: ONE COMPARTMENT IS FOR FIRE ALARMS, AND THE OTHER IS FOR INDIVIDUAL CALL BUTTONS FOR SUCH EMERGENCY SERVICES AS POLICE, MEDICAL AID, AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE.
