This article discusses some recommendations for interoperability that were made at the International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE).
Abstract
Agencies that plan ahead should have a large-scale incident communication plan, improve disaster recovery, and enhance interoperability and collaboration among agencies for crisis responses. A panel at the International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE) set out to answer some of the questions. For example, the support for broadband allowed the first public safety 700 MHz to be deployed in the Nation’s capital region. The panel also heard about Roam Secure, which has more than 100 systems deployed and active across the U.S. The Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN) is a Web-based, single platform for alerting. From a Web page or mobile device, approved users generate a message that RSAN converts and sends alerts to groups such as text, e-mail, phone, fax and desktop users. The next phase of the project will be the Roam Secure Information Exchange (RSIX) it will provide an exchange in real time, for instant information and alert sharing. It will connect to local information sources such as traffic, local news/weather monitoring, and national/global information sources.
