THE TOPICS COVERED ARE THE RIGHT TO A PRELIMINARY SCREENING OF THE CHARGE, PRETRIAL LIBERTY AND THE BAIL SYSTEM, THE ROLE OF COUNSEL IN THE ADVERSARY PROCESS, THE RIGHT TO TRIAL BY JURY, THE PROCESS OF PROOF, AND SENTENCING PROCEDURE AND THE PLEA BARGAINING SYSTEM. THE MATERIALS INCLUDED ARE PRIMARILY CASES STATUTES, AND OCCASIONAL SECONDARY SOURCES. THE AUTHOR HAS INCLUDED TEXTUAL NOTES OF HIS OWN TO EXPLAIN THE BACKGROUND OF PROBLEMS RAISED IN THE CASES AND STATUTES. A TABLE OF CASES AND AN ALPHABETICAL SUBJECT INDEX ARE PROVIDED.
