An investigation of the classroom instruction of prison inmates enrolled in a new college-level introductory psychology course was conducted comparing the effects of sixteen cumulative and noncumulative weekly chapter quizzes on academic performance.
Abstract
The two methods of evaluation were administered in the order ABBA (A=noncumulative, B=cumulative) to control for order or practice effects. The results indicated that academic performance was higher in the noncumulative evaluation condition as assessed on the weekly chapter quizzes and a final examination. The findings highlight the need to consider variables in the immediate learning situation in order to facilitate the academic achievement of prison inmates. (Publisher abstract)
