REPORT ON A RESEARCH STUDY WHICH WAS BASED ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT PRISONS SHOULD CONTRIBUTE TO LOWERING THE RECIDIVISM RATE, I.E. PRISONS SHOULD HAVE SUCH PROPERTIES WHICH MINIMIZE CONDITIONS WHICH LEAD TO RECIDIVISM.
Abstract
HYPOTHESES ARE FORMULATED WHICH STATE A RELATION BETWEEN CERTAIN PROPERTIES OF PRISONS AND CRIME REDUCING CONDITIONS. THESE HYPOTHESES ARE THEN TESTED USING THE RESULTS OF INTERVIEWS WITH SOME 100 INMATES IN EACH OF THREE PRISONS, RANGING FROM CUSTODIAL TO THERAPY ORIENTED. THE EFFECTS OF THESE THREE PRISONS ARE ALSO COMPARED. BASED ON STUDY RESULTS, RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE FOR CHANGING PRISON ENVIRONMENTS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT) --IN GERMAN. SUMMARY IN ENGLISH...ELW
