In the spring of 1982, the administration of a juvenile detention home in a mid-Atlantic State covertly increased the quantity of orange juice served to its incarcerated juveniles for a period of 6 months.
Abstract
A double-blind was created and maintained. Neither the juveniles nor the staff were aware that a behavioral study was in progress. After maintaining the dietary revision for 6 months, the 242 juveniles who had experienced this high-orange juice diet were compared to 239 juveniles who had been institutionalized prior to the diet revision. Results showed that those who had been on the revised diet engaged in significantly less antisocial behavior. Tables and 24 references are supplied. (Author abstract modified)
