This study investigates the impact of anger management training on reducing aggressive behavior in adolescent males.
Abstract
The study evaluated the impact of anger management training on reducing aggressive behavior in court-referred adolescent males in a residential treatment facility. Twenty adolescent males were pre-tested on the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory and the Provocarion Inventory. They then participated in 12 anger management training sessions, after which they were re-tested. Repeated measures analysis of variance indicated significant differences, suggesting that anger management training may be an effective treatment strategy for reducing aggressiveness and providing coping skills to adolescent offenders with histories of violent crimes and aggressive behaviors. Further, routine use of anger management training could be a valuable tool for use in offender rehabilitation programs for all age groups. The article describes economical, practical and easily accessible methods for use by trained personnel in a variety of criminal justice settings. Tables, figures, references, notes
