THE PURPOSE OF THIS INVESTIGATION WAS TO EXAMINE THE EFFECT OF THE PERCEIVED ROLE OF A MODEL ON THE LEARNING OF 92 MALE, CAUCASIAN OPERATIONAL POLICE OFFICERS FROM A MAJOR MUNICIPAL DEPARTMENT IN THE SOUTHWEST.
Abstract
ALL SUBJECTS WERE ACTIVELY PURSUING EITHER A BACHELOR'S OR MASTER'S DEGREE. ALL SUBJECTS VIEWED A 17 MINUTE VIDEO-TAPED PRESENTATION PURPORTING TO SHOW THE FINDINGS OF A MAJOR POLICE RESEARCH PROJECT. THE SUBJECTS WERE EQUALLY AND RANDOMLY ASSIGNED TO FOUR GROUPS. THE GROUPS WERE TOLD RESPECTIVELY THAT THE NARRATOR WAS A POLICE CAPTAIN WITH A PH.D, A POLICE CAPTAIN WHO HAD NEVER BEEN TO COLLEGE, A PH.D WHO HAD NEVER BEEN A POLICE OFFICER, OR GIVEN NO INFORMATION ABOUT THE MODEL AT ALL. AFTER VIEWING THE PRESENTATION, THE SUBJECTS WERE GIVEN AN ATTITUDE QUESTIONNAIRE AND A KNOWLEDGE TEST CONCERNING THE MATERIAL PRESENTED. THE RESULTS ARE ANALYZED TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT OF ROLE PERCEPTION AND ATTITUDE ON LEARNING....MSP
