Islamic education in crime prevention focuses on countering biological and sociological factors that produce criminal behavior.
Abstract
To counter biological factors that produce crime, prospective parents are instructed in the selection of mates who are physically and mentally healthy. Married couples are informed about physical and mental diseases which could be passed on to any children they might have as well as the age range of parents that is best for the production of children. Instructions to pregnant women address the danger of alcohol and drug use during pregnancy as well as the importance of the mother's psychological state during pregnancy. Education to counter social factors in criminality focuses on the family's central role in the positive socialization of children so as to prevent delinquency. Parents (both father and mother) are taught their roles in the proper socialization of their children. Socialization methods include orders and prohibitions, parental role modeling for correct social behavior, reward and punishment, and inspiration. The socialization process focuses on the child's need for security, acceptance, appreciation, behavioral norms, and authoritative guidance. 131 footnotes.
