THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES A METHOD OF OUTCOME EVALUATION WHICH ALLOWS A CLIENT TO BE TRACKED THROUGHOUT A DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAM SO THAT BEHAVIORAL STATUS CAN BE ASSESSED WHILE THE CLIENT REMAINS IN TREATMENT.
Abstract
THREE TYPES OF TREATMENT CATEGORIES ARE USED IN THIS TYPE OF TRACKING MODEL. THE FIRST INVOLVES THE USE OF METHADONE, WORKING OR LOOKING FOR WORK, THERAPUETIC COUNSELING, NO ILLICIT DRUG USE, AND NO COURT CONTACTS. THE SECOND INCLUDES THE USE OF METHADONE, WORKING TO BECOME JOB READY, MINOR DRUG USE, COOPERATIVE COUNSELING SESSIONS, AND MINOR COURT CONTACT. THE THIRD INVOLVES THE USE OF METHADONE, NONMOTIVATION FOR STRAIGHT WORK, INDIFFERENT COUNSELING RAPPORT, ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT IN ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES, AMD ILLICIT DRUG USE. THE CLIENT ORIENTATED DATA ACQUISITION PROCESS (CODAP), WHICH IS CURRENTLY USED TO COLLECT DATA FOR EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DRUG ABUSE THERAPY, VIOLATES THE THEORETICAL ASSUMPTIONS OF THE OUTPATIENT TREATMENT ENVIRONMENT. THIS CAN RESULT IN THE DRUG TREATMENT'S EFFECTIVENESS BEING SERIOUSLY UNDERESTIMATED. THIS TRACKING METHOD, USED AS A PROGRAM EVALUATION, WILL PRODUCE MORE ACCURATE DATA FOR EVALUATION PURPOSES THAN THE CODAP SYSTEM. THE INTERNAL TRACKING SYSTEM IS CONSISTENT WITH THE TREATMENT ASSUMPTIONS OF THE OUTPATIENT THERAPEUTIC ENVIRONMENT. A TABLE AND TWO REFERENCES ARE INCLUDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
