The report highlights activities of the Drug Abuse Council, a private source of information, public policy evaluation, and research funding in the drug abuse field, in the areas of marijuana, heroin, evaluation of New York's drug laws, public and private sector relationships, information/education, and special studies.
Abstract
The Council studied legal responses to marijuana use and sale and monitored those States changing their marijuana laws. It provides this information to State legislatures considering such changes. The Council questioned certain Federal drug policies and analyzed alternatives to heroin prohibition. The organization launched the 'Ten Cities Project,' an effort to visit selected cities to keep abreast of municipal drug abuse programming developments. Policy advice and technical assistance were given and a comprehensive publication on alcohol and drug abuse was launched. The Council published 11 monographs, staff studies, and other reports during 1976. The report also lists new publications and includes a financial report.
