This workbook was developed under the Driving with Care program for individuals convicted of driving while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and is an educational program intended to aid these individuals in developing strategies to change their behavior and live responsibly.
Abstract
Six lessons make up the Driving with Care: Alcohol, other Drugs, and Driving Safety Education Level I program: (1) program orientation--developing a working relationship; (2) alcohol and other drug impaired driving--the laws and beyond the laws; (3) changing our thoughts, beliefs and our actions--learning self control and driving with care; (4) alcohol and other drugs--how do the facts and ideas about alcohol and other drug use fit you; (5) understanding alcohol and other drug (AOD) use and problem outcome patterns--how do they fit you; and (6) preventing recidivism and relapse. The six lesson education program consists of a total of 12 hours and is for persons who have been convicted of driving while their blood alcohol level went beyond legal limits or while they were under the influence of a drug other than alcohol. One of the main purposes behind this program is to help the participant to prevent future driving while impaired by alcohol or other drugs, to prevent recidivism, as well as to prevent relapse. Each lesson has exercises and work sheets to assist the participant in applying the topics and material to their own experience. Participants will receive the knowledge and skills on how to change their thinking so that their actions and behaviors can bring positive outcomes for themselves and others, as well as their community. The program is about helping participants develop approaches and strategies for responsible living and change. Figures, tables, and worksheets
