This manual is intended to help businesses understand the impact of domestic assault on their employees and to develop or adapt programs and policies to meet the needs of their abused and victimized employees.
Abstract
Employers are advised to assure that their existing employee assistance programs, work/family and health benefits, and security and supervisory policies apply to and are sensitive to domestic violence. The text notes that it is not necessary to develop new policies or programs specific to domestic assault, although existing programs and policies may require change consistent with other kinds of change that normally take place as business and workforce issues evolve. The manual presents and explains checklists related to the crucial areas of corporate and human resource policies and programs that assist employees who are victims of domestic violence, how such policies and programs relate to making a workplace safe and supportive for victims of domestic violence, and how policies and programs apply to the actual needs of workers. It also notes that an audit of corporate policies should have four components. Checklists and appended background information and sample materials
