THE CLINIC, IN UTRECHT, NETHERLANDS, IS UNDER CONTRACT TO THE GOVERNMENT, AND PERSONS ARE ASSIGNED TO IT BY THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE FOR TREATMENT, ALTHOUGH THE CLINIC CAN AND SOMETIMES DOES, REJECT AN INDIVIDUAL.
Abstract
THE CLINIC HAS A PERMANENT CAPACITY OF 90 PATIENTS, WITH APPROXIMATELY 70 UNDERGOING TREATMENT AS OF MAY 1975, 60 OF THEM BEING MEN AND 10 WOMEN. AGES RANGED FROM 17 TO 50. OFFENSES COMMITTED BY THE PATIENTS INCLUDED PROPERTY AND SEXUAL CRIMES, CRIMES AGAINST PERSONS, AND TRAFFIC AND DRUG OFFENSES. THERE ARE 110 FULL AND PART TIME PEOPLE WHO WORK AT THE CLINIC. THE PRINCIPAL POLICY IN WORKING WITH THE PATIENTS IS TO GET THEM INVOLVED IN PLANNING AND CARRYING OUT THEIR TREATMENT PROGRAMS, AND TO HAVE THEM SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITY.
