This is a workbook to help organizations develop and maintain a diverse workplace and deal with human issues and relationships.
Abstract
To succeed in a multicultural society, an organization must value the differences of that society, respect the individuality of all staff and maintain a climate in which everyone is treated with dignity. This workbook deals with perception, personal bias, confronting prejudice, and recognizing when to laugh instead of fight. It is primarily about diversity in the corrections workplace, but the information and techniques apply to all areas of life. The book contains six chapters, each including objectives, self-check exercises and reviews: (1) What Diversity Really Means; (2) Factors That Create Diversity; (3) Barriers to Diversity; (4) Our Changing Etiquette; (5) Confronting Prejudice and Discrimination; and (6) Guidelines for Managing Your Diverse Relationships.
