CIRCUMSTANCES WERE EXAMINED UNDER WHICH OLDER PERSONS CAME TO THE ATTENTION OF THE POLICE WHEN NO CRIME HAD BEEN COMMITTED, BUT POLICE AID WAS SOUGHT BECAUSE OTHER COMMUNITY RESOURCES WERE UNKNOWN OR NOT AVAILABLE. METHODS AND TECHNIQUES WERE EXPLORED FOR QUICK AND APPROPRIATE REFERRAL FOR SERVICE BY POLICE IN DISPOSING OF PROBLEMS OF OLDER PERSONS ENCOUNTERED AS VICTIMS OF CRIME OR AS PERSONS NEEDING OR SEEKING HELP.
