AN EX-CONVICT NARRATES HOW HE BECAME INVOLVED IN CRIME AND WHAT HE EXPERIENCED IN A MAXIMUM SECURITY CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION, AND SUGGESTS AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT IN CORRECTIONS PRACTICES.
Abstract
THE SPEAKER WAS INCARCERATED IN 1954 FOR 18 YEARS FOLLOWING A SERIES OF ARMED ROBBERIES. AFTER TELLING ABOUT THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF HIS IMPRISONMENT AND THE RESULTING CHANGES IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE, HE SUGGESTS THAT CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES SHOULD ATTEMPT SUCH IMPROVEMENTS AS PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR DEVELOPING A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY AND FOR LEARNING USEFUL TRADES. THIS AUDIO CASSETTE WAS PREPARED FROM A RADIO INTERVIEW AND IS INTENDED FOR A GENERAL AUDIENCE. NO SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED. THE SECOND PART APPEARS UNDER NCJ-68991.
