Two research and development projects in the reeducation of emotionally disturbed children were simultaneously conducted since 1984 at French and Canadian residential treatment centers for youngsters aged 6 to 16.
Abstract
The main objective was to elaborate an approach specifically attuned to the psychomotor and affective needs of children clinically described as emotionally deprived. Emotional deprivation is a behavior syndrome typically found in children who, during their first years of life, lost or never had contact with a stable positive parental figure. A program was developed where every weekly session held with the children contained several of the following elements: concentration exercises, nonverbal communication, relaxation, massage, spontaneous play, and verbal exchanges. Analysis of group and individual evolution in this program indicates that it obtained largely positive results in both Canada and France. 2 notes, 29 references. (Author abstract modified)
