Child care staff in detention centres are frequently called upon to provide service to very disturbed and acting-out youth.
Abstract
Unfortunately, most detention programs function in isolation from the larger children's service delivery system and detention staff are faced with the difficult task of caring for a very volatile population without professional backup. The present review describes a program of mental health consultation developed to assist detention staff in providing care to youths during their stay in one secure detention facility.
