This management plan for the New Zealand Department of Justice links the government's desired outcomes through broad output classes and associated appropriation levels to the contributing departmental outputs.
Abstract
The Department of Justice pursues its objectives by providing administrative and information services to courts and tribunals, administering parole and noncustodial sentences, providing custodial services, administering final orders in the civil jurisdiction of courts, managing the parliamentary electoral system, participating in most areas of law reform, and negotiating claims under the Treaty of Waitangi. The Department's statement of emphasis focuses on policy, cooperation and cultural perspectives, and performance. This management plan is organized around the output classes produced by the Department, but also includes brief profiles of the functional groups and divisions. Departmental outputs are listed under each output class. Each output is accompanied by a description of the most important performance measures which will be used to evaluate the delivery of that output as well as a description of the planned result which is expected to be achieved.
