This study used social bonding theory to examine the extent to which factors of bonding, parental social support, teacher social support, and inner containment predicted or correlated with early juvenile delinquency and dropping out of school.
Abstract
The book discusses the theoretical framework and concepts of social bonding theory, the methodology used in this study, the development of an appropriate instrument, the tests of study hypotheses, and the empirical properties of social correlates obtained through regression analysis. The findings showed that social support from parents or teachers was a strong predictor of early adolescents' disengagement from the educational process and their decision whether or not to engage in delinquent activity. For adolescents to receive social bonding from their parents, they must have the time available to experience parental interactions. 34 tables, 1 figure, 54 references, and 5 appendixes
