In 1979, courts with juvenile jurisdiction disposed of an estimated 1,306,700 delinquency cases. For every 1,000 children at risk between the age of 10 and the upper age of court jurisdiction, 46 delinquency cases were processed by the juvenile courts.
Abstract
In 1979, 10.8 percent of all cases disposed involved crimes against persons, 48.5 percent crimes against property, 6.1 percent drug law violations, 14.8 percent crimes against public order, and 19.8 percent status offenses. The report describes delinquency cases processed by the courts with juvenile jurisdiction in 1979 and presents demographic information about the delinquents (i.e., age, race, sex). Tables and figures give statistical data on dispositions, delinquency cases, detention, and petitioned and nonpetitioned cases. Appendixes include the methodology, a glossary of terms, and bivariate distributions.
