Abstract
Part I provides interviews with those working against capital punishment, including a college professor, an attorney, and a man who has been considered for a Nobel Peace Prize. Part II deals with the inmates themselves. They tell their stories truthfully and with remorse. Some may be innocent of the crime for which they were convicted, and nearly all had overworked and underpaid court-appointed attorneys. Part III focuses on the families of the condemned inmates. They tell of the pain and heartbreak they have gone through since their loved one was sentenced to die. The public sometimes treats them as if they also were behind bars. Bibliography, index.
