DESCRIPTION OF HOW THE DALLAS POLICE DEPARTMENT COLLECTS, USES, FILES, RETRIEVES, MODIFIES, AUGMENTS, AND DISPOSES OF INFORMATION.
Abstract
IN ADDITION, THE REPORT DESCRIBES HOW THE DEPARTMENT OPERATES, HOW IT IS ORGANIZED, DISCUSSES THE PROBLEMS FOUND DURING THE DATA COLLECTION AND INTERVIEW PHASE OF THE STUDY, AND RECOMMENDS POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS TO MOST OF THE PROBLEMS WHICH WERE UNCOVERED. THE GOAL OF THE STUDY HERE REPORTED WAS TO EVALUATE DATA AND INFORMATION TRANSFER WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT WITH THE INTENTION OF MINIMIZING THE TIME AND EFFORT SPENT IN HANDLING PAPERWORK, WITHOUT DEGRADING THE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION NEEDED FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE POLICE FUNCTION. THE LONG RANGE GOAL BEING TO MAKE MAXIMUM USE OF COMPUTERS AND MASS MEMORY DEVICES TO ASSIST OFFICERS IN THE DEPARTMENT. IN PERFORMING THIS STUDY, OPERATIONAL COMPONENTS OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE, PATROL BUREAU, SPECIAL SERVICES BUREAU, SUPPORT SERVICES BUREAU, AND HUMAN RESOURCES DIVISION WERE EVALUATED AND REPORTED.
