A PROPOSAL FOR AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM IN CRIMINOLOGY AND CORRECTIONS FOR CORRECTIONAL COUNSELORS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND REHABILITATIVE PERSONNEL.
Abstract
THIS ARTICLE ANALYZES THE FUNCTIONS WHICH PERSONNEL PERFORMS IN THE COURSE OF THE CORRECTIONAL PROCESS AND DEMONSTRATES THE INADEQUACY OF EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION RECEIVED BY CORRECTIONAL EMPLOYEES. THE AUTHOR'S MAIN THESIS IS THAT CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL ARE CALLED UPON TO PERFORM SEGMENTS OF CORRECTIONAL TASKS FOR WHICH THEIR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND QUALIFIES THEM, BUT THEY ARE NOT PREPARED BY THEIR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND TO SEE THE TOTAL PICTURE OF THE CORRECTIONAL PROCESS. IT IS PROPOSED THAT THE THREE MAJOR TOPICS IN THE BODY OF CRIMINOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE ARE THE ETIOLOGY, TREATMENT, AND PREVENTION OF CRIME.
