Abstract
THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES DIFFERENTIAL ASSOCIATIONS AND SOCIAL CONTROL THEORY BEFORE PRESENTING HIS STUDY. TO PROVIDE DATA FOR ANALYZING THE DIFFERENT CAUSAL ALTERNATIVE THEORIES, 139 MALES, AGES 14-17, OF A MEDIUM-SIZED MIDWESTERN CITY WERE ASKED TO COMPLETE QUESTIONNAIRES PERTAINING TO THE ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORS OF ADOLESCENTS. MULTIPLE ANALYSES OF QUESTIONNAIRE DATA RELATING TO DELINQUENT ASSOCIATES AND LACK OF FAMILY SUPPORT WERE MADE. THE DATA SUPPORTED THE SOCIAL CONTROL THEORY OF HIRSCHI THAT SUGGESTS THAT DELINQUENT DEFINITIONS, PRECEDES DELINQUENT ASSOCIATES, THE FAMILY SERVING TO LIMIT THE EXTENT OF DELINQUENT ASSOCIATES....TWH
