THE PROCEEDINGS OF AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE DEALING WITH THE COMPARATIVE LEGAL, ECONOMIC, AND CRIMINOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF BUSINESS CRIME ARE REPORTED.
Abstract
IN THE FIRST SESSION OF THIS CONFERENCE, METHODOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS ON PHENOMENOLOGICAL RESEARCH ON ECONOMIC CRIME, ITS AIMS, AND ITS PROBLEMS ARE DISCUSSED. THE EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON THE METHODOLOGY INVOLVED IN INTERPRETING CRIME AND MAKING IMPROVEMENTS IN THE PROCEDURES DEALING WITH IT. THE SOCIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF ECONOMIC CRIME ARE EXAMINED IN THE NEXT PRESENTATION. THE DEFINITIONS AND TERMINOLOGY USED IN THIS AREA ARE DISCUSSED, AND A TYPOLOGICAL MODEL OF CRIME AND LAW BREAKING IN GENERAL IS SET UP TO DETERMINE HOW ECONOMIC CRIMES ARE TO BE CLASSIFIED. THE FINAL REPORT ADDRESSES THE PROBLEM OF DEFINING ECONOMIC CRIME. ALONG WITH THIS PROBLEM, THE AUTHOR OF THIS PRESENTATION PROVIDES AN OVERVIEW OF THE POLICY OF VARIOUS NATIONS AS WELL AS THE PUNITIVE MEASURES AGAINST ECONOMIC CRIMES. HE SUGGESTS THAT INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION BE DEVELOPED TO DEAL MORE EFFECTIVELY WITH THIS PROBLEM. EACH OF THESE PRESENTATION IS FOLLOWED BY A DISCUSSION OF RELEVANT QUESTIONS. A GENERAL DISCUSSION SUGGESTING CONCLUSIONS OF THE CONFERENCE IS PROVIDED. THE MAJOR CONCLUSION IS THAT MORE RESEARCH SHOULD BE CONDUCTED IN THIS AREA, WITH PRIORITIES BEING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROSECUTION AND LAW ENFORCEMET METHODS, EFFECTIVENESS OF PROSECUTION AND LAW ENFORCEMENT METHODS, PREVENTION, THE USE OF CIVIL LAW, AND REGULATIONS ON INDUSTRY. APPENDIXES INCLUDE THE PROGRAM OF THE CONFERENCE, LIST OF PARTICIPANTS, NOTES AND BIBLIOGRAPHY OF ONE OF THE REPORTS, AND A TRANSCRIPT OF A REPORT ON THE PHENOMENOLOGY OF ECONOMIC OFFENSES. (BAC)
