Statistical information was compiled on the incidence of various types of crimes in the USSR and within the individual Republics for the period 1961 to 1989.
Abstract
It is the first crime data collection and analysis since the 1930's when the USSR statistics department had been closed. Information is provided on all registered crimes in each Republic and on the coefficient factor per 100 thousand of the population including 14-year-old juveniles. General trends in crime are analyzed for the USSR and then for each individual Republic. Data is provided for individual crime categories including murder, bodily injuries, hooliganism, robberies, property crimes against the State or community, abuse of official status, misappropriation of funds, profiteering, speculation, and narcotics-related crimes. Also covered are crimes relating to traffic and fire safety enforcement. Special attention is focused on data on the types and numbers of convictions to assist with planning for future research studies and policy development. General data is provided for the last decade beginning with 1980, whereas more detailed information is given for the last 5 years.
