This text provides an overview of criminal procedure as determined through the decisions of the United States Supreme Court and other Federal courts interpreting the Constitution.
Abstract
This is a textbook designed for use by students of the law. It closely examines Federal law and practice to provide a model of criminal process in this country. Details of State laws and procedures vary but they are greatly influenced by Federal law. Furthermore, much of criminal procedure involves interpretations of the Constitution. Therefore, much of the material in this text revolves around constitutional law decisions of the United State Supreme Court and other Federal appellate courts. Opinions are included only to the extent that they bear on the issue of criminal process being discussed. The text is divided into two main headings. Part one covers procedural aspects of the investigation of crimes and part two deals with their prosecution.
