The intent of this text is to provide both a broad understanding of the law of criminal procedure and practical guidelines for criminal justice professionals.
Abstract
Fourteen chapters, discussing relevant legislation and citing recent court decisions, address individual rights under the U.S. Constitution, the criminal court system, basic underlying concepts of criminal procedure law, arrest, search warrants, probable cause, stop and frisk, search incident to arrest, consent searches, the plain view doctrine, search and seizure of vehicles and containers, open fields and abandoned property, admissions and confessions, and pretrial identification procedures. Most of the principles governing criminal procedure are derived from the U.S. Constitution and are illustrated in this book by decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court.
