This presentation of South Dakota's criminal justice system's standards and goals focuses on agencies' operations and interrelationships, especially regarding the collection and use of information.
Abstract
The systems standards presented were developed by the Advisory Committee to the Statistical Analysis Center as part of a larger effort to develop South Dakota criminal justice standards and goals. A companion volume, 'Criminal Justice Standards and Goals for South Dakota,' focuses on the separate components of police, courts, corrections, community crime prevention, and Indian reservations. The standards in this report are presented under the following headings: jurisdictional responsibility, police information systems, court information systems, corrections information systems, technical system design, operations, privacy and security, strategy for implementing standards, and evaluation strategy. Standards under each of these categories are stated, followed by a commentary on the standard and advice for implementing each standard.
