This volume consists of the instructor's guide, participant guide, and text for use in a criminal justice program development course sponsored by LEAA and taught at the Criminal Justice Training and Technical Assistance Resource Centers located at five universities.
Abstract
The course aims to provide persons having program development responsibilities with the knowledge and skills needed to assess problem statements and establish priorities among problems for possible intervention. Upon completing the course, participants should also be able to develop program goals, identify and choose strategies for program development, and determine the main events which should be monitored and evaluated during program implementation. Each of the course's six modules consists of a lecture and a workshop. Module topics include the concepts and steps in program development, the development of strategic goals, development of the logic of different strategies, planning the details of program strategies, and preparing for implementation and evaluation. Class exercises include written exercises, group discussions, and small group exercises. The participant guide provides a content outline for each module, along with visual aids and materials and instructions for use in completing course exercises. The instructor's guide provides detailed content outlines along with guidelines for use in delivering the lectures and conducting the workshops. The text's organization parallels the sequence of topics in the course's sex modules. For the individual components of the volume, see NCJ 79359-61.
