Montana criminal justice data for 1980-87 encompass official police crime statistics, public attitudes toward crime, court statistics, corrections statistics, and juvenile justice statistics.
Abstract
Crime data include national and State summary statistics, statistics on the number of law enforcement employees, and the number of students attending the State law enforcement academy. Traffic offense statistics focus on drunk driving and fatality rates. Narrative descriptions of the Law Enforcement Services Division, the Highway Patrol Division, and the Forensic Science Division are also provided. Results are reported from a survey that solicited the public's attitude toward crime. An overview of prosecutorial services in the State is followed by a presentation of the Montana court structure and selected court statistics. Corrections statistics cover prison populations and admissions, the inmate population, and offense trends among imprisoned offenders. Juvenile justice statistics encompass reason for referral, number of youth at risk, most frequent reason for referral, referral sources, and hours detained. Glossary, figures, and tables
