PRACTICAL INFORMATION ON INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM DESIGN, IMPLEMENTATION, AND EVALUATION IS PRESENTED FOR TEACHERS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE COURSES WITH EMPHASIS ON NEWER AND PROVEN TECHNIQUES.
Abstract
THIS BOOK COVERS MODERN INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS AND IS DIRECTED TO POLICE ACADEMY INSTRUCTORS IN PARTICULAR. ANALYSIS OF TRAINING REQUIREMENTS, JOB-TASK ANALYSIS, INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION, AND INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCE CENTERS ARE SOME OF THE NEW CONCEPTS INTRODUCED. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON SYSTEMATIC INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN, MODERN INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA, AND DEFINITE PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE SETTING. TEACHERS ARE INFORMED ABOUT THE TYPE OF STUDENT THEY ARE LIKELY TO ENCOUNTER, THE EXPECTATIONS THAT THE STUDENT WILL HAVE OF THE COURSE AND OF THE TEACHER, AND THE QUALIFICATIONS THEY WILL NEED AND THE LEARNING CLIMATE THEY MUST CREATE TO MAKE THE COURSE SUCCESSFUL. LEARNING IS VIEWED AS A PROCESS OF ACQUIRING NEW SKILLS, NEW KNOWLEDGE, TECHNIQUES, AND APPRECIATION WHICH ENABLES INDIVIDUALS TO DO SOMETHING THEY COULD NOT PREVIOUSLY DO. LEARNING FOLLOWS CERTAIN PRINCIPLES--MOTIVATION, PURPOSE, ADJUSTMENT, ACTIVITY, ASSOCIATION, REALISM, AND INCIDENTAL LEARNING, TEACHERS MUST BE ABLE TO INFLUENCE THESE PRINCIPLES FOR INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS BY DEFINING LEARNING OBJECTIVES, VARYING TEACHING TECHNIQUES, ENCOURAGING COMPETITION AND PARTICIPATION, AND MORE. TO DO THIS, TEACHER MUST PLAN EFFECTIVELY (A GUIDE FOR PLANNING IS INCLUDED HERE) AND REGULARLY EVALUATE LEARNING ACTIVITIES. ORAL INSTRUCTION PHASES, LESSON PLAN DESIGN, USE OF INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA, SUPERVISING OF INSTRUCTION, AND MATCHING INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS TO INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES, ALL PART OF EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTION, ARE ALSO COVERED IN THIS TEXT. EACH CHAPTER CONTAINS AN OUTLINE AND CONCLUSION. AN INDEX AND PLANNING AND RECORDING FORMS ARE PROVIDED. (RFC)
