Abstract
A general introduction reviews the structure of Germany's government and criminal justice system. This is followed by descriptions of the kinds of criminal justice statistics that are published by various government agencies. They include police crime statistics, prosecution statistics, court statistics, statistics on convictions, prison statistics, and probation statistics. Another section of this paper reviews the literature information on criminal justice (reviews, books, law materials). The agencies and institutions discussed in this section include the German Legal Information System, which hosts 1.5 million documents in 27 databases that cover all areas of law. The Center for Criminology has a library of criminological literature and elementary works from related sciences, as well as a Criminology Abstracts Service. The various categories and subcategories of this information service are outlined. The library of the Federal Supreme Court is the best source for materials on criminal law past and present in Germany. The paper concludes with a list of regularly published criminal justice information presented in series of volumes.
