This report presents extensive data tables and brief narrative descriptions showing the expenditures and personnel allocations for the criminal justice system in the State, county, and municipal governments of Kansas for the fiscal year 1982.
Abstract
The data come from a survey mailed to all 105 Kansas county clerks and to the city clerks of the 224 municipalities listing a police department. State-level data came from individual agencies and from the governor's budget report. Over 90 percent of the local governments responded to the survey. The data are reported for six functional categories: police protection, judicial, legal, public defense, corrections, and other. Maps present the relative density of five county characteristics: population, crime index offenses, criminal arrests, criminal justice expenditures, and criminal justice employment. A glossary and a copy of the survey form are appended.
