The guidebook for high school and college students considering criminal justice careers describes more than 65 occupations in the American criminal justice system.
Abstract
Occupational descriptions comprise most of the guide. Career positions in law enforcement, the judiciary, and corrections are listed by preferred occupational title, although alternate titles are cross-referenced to them. A job requirements section tells how to qualify in terms of professional training, preprofessional education, special skills or aptitudes, State licensure, professional certification, and other employment-related factors. The guide speculates on the employment outlook for each listing, discussing factors influencing the job market. Code numbers from the 'Dictionary of Occupational Titles,' a Government classification system, are listed. General sections review employment trends in criminal justice and the development of different areas of the justice system. Photographs, an index, a list of agencies and organizations with additional information, and about 65 references are included.
