This report presents data pertinent to the implementation of Victoria's (Australia) Crimes (Family Violence) Act.
Abstract
The first table and figure present the number of elapsed days between various steps of case processing, specifically, the number of days between issue and service, the service and the final hearing, and the complaint and the final hearing. Another table indicates who brought the complaint (police, aggrieved family member, agent, child, guardian, or parent) and the age and sex of the aggrieved family member, for both magistrates' and children's courts. Another table shows the sex of the aggrieved family member and the defendant by age group. Information on final intervention orders addresses whether or not it was issued, restrictions in final intervention orders by defendant, and the first mentioned restriction in the order. The number of interim orders granted is also reported. The relationship and age group of aggrieved family members is broken down by sex, and the relationship of the aggrieved family member to the defendant is indicated. The relationship and age group of defendants are shown by sex, along with the defendant's relationship to the alleged victim and the principal case outcome. Other data indicate whether or not the defendant was present at the final hearing, whether or not the previous Family Law Act or the Crimes (Family Violence) Act applied, breaches of final intervention orders, and bail for breaches of intervention orders.
