This paper describes recent findings and developments in crime prevention in the U.S.
Abstract
The first section discusses current U.S. crime patterns and trends, highlighting problems in measuring crime rates and recent methodological developments. The following section presents three major perspectives on crime and crime prevention -- focusing on victimization, social disorganization, and legislation -- now prevalent in the U.S. This discussion does not cover crime control strategies such as police investigation, court processing, and offender treatment. The report also discusses issues relating to Federal crime prevention planning and coordination and uses several case studies to illustrate national programs to combat arson and to raise public awareness and involvement in crime prevention. The final section outlines future directions in U.S. crime prevention. Chapter references
