This annual report publishes statistics on criminal activities which were recorded by West German police departments in 1989.
Abstract
The nationwide collection of statistics is intended to permit an overview of the overall criminal activity as well as detailed analysis in individual crime areas. It is also used for crime preventive efforts. The data are recorded after the police have closed a case but before the case is transferred to the courts. Not included are offenses against the State, traffic offenses, offenses outside the territory of West Germany, and offenses against the laws of individual German States. Furthermore, the statistics do not include the large number of offenses which never come to the attention of the police. In addition to a general crime synopsis, charts and graphs cover the most important types of crime including homicide, property offenses, drug offenses, sexual offenses, and environmental offenses. An English summary and numerous statistical tables are appended.
