The videocassette discusses how to deal with a personal computer and related software found at a crime scene and how to safeguard the computer's evidence so that it can be used in court.
Abstract
Because more and more personal computers are being used by all segments of society, police must know how to safeguard any personal computers, related hardware devices, and related software found at any crime scene so that the evidence is available for acceptance as evidence in a court. The three parts of a computer are described as well as how to transport, find each of the parts, and record the setup of the computer as found at the crime scene. The rules of evidence related to computers and searching computer files are discussed as well as the fact that computers are private property and so are liable to civil liability if destroyed.
