Abstract
SEMINAR PAPERS DISCUSS THE ROLE OF THE AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF CRIMINOLOGY IN CRIME PREVENTION AND CONTROL, THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMMUNITY, PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN THE WORK OF THE PROFESSIONAL SERVICES, COMMUNITY VALUES, AND THE CONCEPT OF SOCIALIZATION. OTHER PAPERS CONSIDER THE SECURITY INDUSTRY AND ITS PROBLEMS OF CONTROL AND RESPONSIBILITY, THE IMPACT OF WHITE COLLAR CRIME ON THE COMMUNITY, AND THE ROLE OF POLICE WOMEN IN CRIME PREVENTION. A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE CONFERENCE PROCEEDNGS OUTLINES SOME OF THE CONCLUSIONS REACHED BY CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS WITH REGARD TO PUBLIC RESPONSIBILITY FOR CRIME PREVENTION, THE DESIRABILITY OF DECRIMINALIZING CERTAIN CRIMES, THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF VOLUNTEERS IN PROFESSIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, THE EXTENT TO WHICH DIVERSE VALUES CAN BE TOLERATED SAFELY IN AUSTRALIAN SOCIETY, AND REFORMS IN THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.
