These guidelines for reducing crime in residential areas in Great Britain are based on more than crime prevention projects developed by the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders since 1979.
Abstract
The advice is intended for use by local government officials and community organizations. It emphasizes the central role of local governments in planning and carrying out crime prevention strategies based on involvement of many types of organizations and recognition of the specific needs of groups most vulnerable to crime. The guidelines cover planning by local governments, factors to consider in designing housing projects, security measures for individual dwellings, the effects of improved maintenance and other services on crime, improvements in community and youth services, the development of community crime prevention projects, and the policing of residential areas. Case examples, photographs, and chapter reference lists.
