This report presents data on the number of crimes reported to Nebraska law enforcement agencies in 2010.
Abstract
The number of crimes reported to law enforcement agencies in Nebraska in 2010 decreased 2 percent compared to 2009. There were 52, 152 crimes reported to police during January through December of 2010, compared to 53,098 reported during the same period of 2009, a decrease of 946 crimes. These data pertain to the following offenses: murder-manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. There were 4,837 violent crimes reported to police in 2010 compared to 4,892 reported in 2009, a decrease of 55 offenses. Property crimes decreased 2 percent; there were 47,315 property crimes reported in 2010 compared to 48,203 reported in 2009, a decrease of 888 crimes. The total number of persons arrested during 2010 decreased from 88,673 in 2009 to 83,860 in 2010, a decrease of 4,813 arrests. The total number of arrests of adults (age 18 and over) decreased 5 percent, from 73,506, in 2009 to 69,829 in 2010. Arrests of adults accounted for 83 percent of the total arrests made statewide. The total number of juvenile arrests decreased 7 percent, from 15,167 in 2009 to 14,031 in 2010. Of the 165 law enforcement agencies asked to participate in hate-crime reporting, 92 agencies submitted at least one quarterly report during 2010, with 82 of those agencies reporting all four quarters. Drug 2010, there were 65 offenses reported to involve crimes motivated by hate, and 18-percent decreased from the 79 reported in 2009. Extensive tabular data
