Abstract
Compared to earlier decades, the 1960's was a period of surging crime rates. The 1970's showed a leveling off in the rate of crime, but the crime rate, when observed in multiyear patterns, is continuing to increase. Tables and charts, which comprise most of the report, give data on crime in California for 1952-81 and for 1971-81. Specific crimes -- willful homicide, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and various types of theft are profiled. Crime trends for each major Index crime are also shown.
